the main thing to consider here are the various ways to tap a joule thief.. there are so many..
here I have power being tapped from the drive coil collapse to light the led, and power from the potential between the base resistors and + rail to charge a 9v battery. I have also found a great way to increase the efficiency of this circuit was to use another small transformer in line with the base resistor. the primary is in line with the base resistance, and the secondary of that transformer has a capacitor and led that lights from the gating pulses of the transistor going through the primary. the additions of the right capacitor and led decreased the circuit draw by about 20mA.
