The magnets are 1 7/8 x 7/8 x 3/8 inch hard ferrite C8. they are 52 cents each at CMS magnetics. http://www.magnet4sale.com/Ceramic-Magnets-C8-1-7-8-X7-8-X3-8-Hard-Ferrite-Magnets.html

These are the Radio Shack magnets that are recommended at $3 each!

There are 18 magnets on this 20 inch wheel. it has been published on the internet that you need 2-5 widths between between magnets. it is also taught that you need an even number of magnets if you are using muti-coil circuits.

You need to make a flat spot under each magnet with a file or belt sander before attaching the magnets with .032 - .041 stainless steel safety wire. Wire ties did not work well on first try so we went with the stronger safety wire. Use Superglue but not the gel Superglue.
