Centerbodiless Rotating Detonation Engine

This centerbodiless rotating detonation engine (RDE) has a cylindrical combustion chamber, in contrast to typical annular RDE designs. The hollow RDE concept has recently received numerical treatment from Tang et al. (2015) and experimental treatment from Lin et al. (2015) and at the UC DetLab. This particular prototype is unique in that the center of the combustor can entrain the ambient flow. It is also the first 3-D printed RDE to date, thus paving the way for cost-effective prototyping of combustors with complex geometry. The prototype utilizes hydrogen and oxygen-enriched air as reactants. Patent pending.
