Cold cathode - the term applied to the cathodes are not heated externally. Despite the lack of heating, the cathode can continue working during heat up to high temperatures. The cathodes of such structures are used in some types of sparkling lights (such as nixie displays), and vacuum.

The term "cold cathode" refers to a fluorescent lamp with cold cathode (CCFL) used in a large part of computer scanners, the LCD backlight and modding computers.
