Flywheel energy storage project. 2010.

Student project to store energy in a flywheel, and then use this to produce electricity.
The flywheel was a 140 kg flywheel, run up to around 4000 rpm. It was then used to generate electricity with the trick being to keel the electricity output stable as the flywheel slowed down.
A large amount of time and effort was put into monitoring the state of the flywheel using numerous vibration and temperature sensors.
LabVIEW was used to monitor and control the system.

A combination of the skills of electronics, electrical and mechanical engineering pulled together.
