After much request, I've done a quick overview of my ghetto, DIY, amatuer foundry furnace.
It is made from an expired propane tank and has an over engineered hinge mechanism made from 3/4" / 1/8" aluminum. The inside is lined with 1" Fiberfrax Ceramic Insulation. The base of the chamber is made from a 95% silica firebrick. The nozzle was build from an assortment of brass fittings and plugs and a #61 drill bit was used to make the jet. The regulator is a 20 PSI BBQ regulated and is linked below.
This furnace is capable of melting brass, aluminum, lead and very nearly copper. It also works great to heat steel for blacksmithing.
