Just a short video detailing the progress I've made for my senior undergraduate research in Applied Physics.
Two things I wasn't terribly clear about:
1) The output of the autotransformer IS on the range of 0-120V but the neon sign transformer is what ramps up the voltage from 2-12kV to start the ionizing reaction.
2) The goal is NOT to create a plasma arc between the electrodes, but I wanted to include it because I thought it was cool.
Disclaimer - If you're planning to do the same type of project, please be careful. High voltages are not something to play around with if you don't actually know what you're doing.
PS - Sorry about the lousy quality and that buzzing in the background. Some of the other lab equipment is pretty loud. Also I'm not much of a cinematographer.
