UTM Razak School community project has successfully built a system Micro Hydro Turbine at the Orang Asli settlement in Kampung Sungai Kejar Royal Belum State Park Gerik Malaysia. This community engagement project was completed within a year and has generated electricity that can be supplied to the residents of Kampung Sungai Kejar for free, after almost 26 years without electricity.
The project was funded by the Rural Transformation Center and NBOS4 with UTM Center for Community and Industrial Network. Micro hydro turbine is a simple and cheap technology that has minimal environmental impact. The technology is easy to manufacture, lightweight and removable and does not need large construction works. The piping system will not affect the trees. Every house was provided with one socket and one plug which are enough for a television, a radio and up to three LED lamps.
