Making an asynchronous generator

This video shows how easy it is to synchronise an asynchronous generator (one that uses a standard AC motor as a gen head instead of a synchronous alternator). We started with a 20kW Perkins generator - removed the gen head - designed and fabricated a coupling - then fitted the electric motor. Synchronising is all about speed. Get the engine to 1500rpm, connect to the grid, then increase the engine speed - power flows from the generator.
