Methods for wireless recharge of THINERGY® Micro-Energy Cells (MECs) are demonstrated using ambient energy harvesting and directed energy (intentionally radiated energy) wireless charging methods. The IPS-EHM-NFC module is demonstrated, which is an available energy harvesting module that exploits the radiated energy from a Near-Field Communications (NFC) reader to rapidly recharge an MEC. The module uses a simple USB-powered 13.5MHz "tap & go" type NFC card reader and works in conjunction with the ADP-201 - Application Development Platform (ADP) Evaluation Kit available from IPS and its Distributors.
