my (self - powered ) solar tracking system

A 2-DOF solar tracker that is used to increase the efficiency of mobile-PV systems by at least 20%~30% over fixed traditional PVs. The system was part of my graduation project at Palestine Polytechnic University (PPU) in Palestine for the year 2009. Self-powered tracker is composed of a dynamic PV module that trackers sun path for all positions using two linear motors (jacks), which are supplied by electricity from the battery that is charged by the PV. The control system uses PIC microcontroller to manage the simultaneous motion of the actuators based on the change of the light on 4 side sensors (very small PV cells, their voltage is a function of light/shadow variations due to daily sun motion). Finally the mechanism of motion (two degrees of freedom) was designed and tested on CATIA before implementation
