AMP plc and project partners Wood Energy are delighted to have secured planning permission for an impressive new steam-generating Combined Heat and Power (CHP) biomass facility for Villa Nursery based at Roydon in Essex.

Epping Forest District Council gave unanimous approval for the innovative renewable energy scheme at their Area Planning Sub-Committee meeting on 18th November, following a detailed submission to the Sub-Committee by Planning Consultant Geoff Fynes of GF Environmental Limited, on behalf of AMP and Wood Energy. Planning consent was the culmination of many months’ of preparatory design, technical and investment work by AMP and Wood Energy.

Villa Nursery grow a range of vegetables for various supermarkets and the new 1.65 mega watt biomass CHP scheme will form part of the company’s sustainable development programme over the next 20 years.

Scheduled for completion in March 2016, the new CHP facility will help the Villa Nursery business increase productivity and reduce costs which, in turn, will lead to even greater levels of investment and increased numbers of new jobs for local people - a genuine ‘win-win-win’ - for the business, for the local community and for the environment.
