PWM - Pulse Width Modulation

PWM is used in many systems for power control and this explains briefly how it works, using a MOSFET step down converter and a table lamp (see related video). Microcontrollers often provide PWM outputs and most switching supplies use PWM principles. By switching at a high frequency rather than linear control the efficiency is very high. PWM is sometimes called Duty Ratio Modulation.
